Biography Dr. Helena Gao received her doctoral training in linguistics from Lund University, Sweden and post-doctoral training in cognitive psychology from the University of Toronto, Canada. Before she joined NTU in August, 2006, she was the research director in the Cognitive Development Lab/Child Study Centre at the University of Toronto. She has also held teaching appointments at the University of Toronto, Lund University, Taiwan Fu-Jen Catholic University, and Shenyang Jianzhu University. Dr. Gao’s research interests are in the fields of linguistics and psychology. The courses she has taught in recent years include Linguistics, Culture and Translation, Translation Theory and Practice, Chinese Lexicology, Language and Society, Contrastive Linguistics, Chinese Linguistics, Human Development, Cognitive Development, Cognitive Linguistics, Psycholinguistics, Language Acquisition, Introduction to Cognitive Science, etc.
